Benue State officials, led by Director of Solid Minerals Anselm Nege, announced on Thursday the discovery of significant gold deposits in Kwande Local Government Area and aluminium along riverine zones, positioning it as an economic boost for Nigeria’s North-Central region.
Nege describes the findings as a major boost to the state’s solid minerals development agenda.
The government aims to regulate mining, end illegal operations, and attract investors for job creation while safeguarding communities and the environment.
Social media users connect the finds to ongoing farmer-herder clashes and a recent church arson attack that killed parishioners, fearing increased resource-driven violence like in Zamfara State.
