The Ondo State Police have confirmed the arrest of two suspects linked to the violent attack on Fuji musician Abass Akande, popularly known as Obesere, during a burial ceremony in the Okitipupa Local Government Area.
Obesere had earlier called on the state government to fish out and prosecute those who allegedly attacked him and destroyed his equipment in the state.
According to the Police spokesperson Olushola Ayanlade stated that the suspects were apprehended thanks to the swift action of security operatives who responded to the disturbance at the Government Field, where the incident took place.
The attack instigated panic among guests, destroying musical equipment and causing injuries to members of Obesere’s band, prompting widespread public condemnation.
The PPRO simply said, “Yes, the incident happened, and two suspects have been arrested; they are in our custody with the exhibit. Investigation had begun.”
Reacting to the incident, the chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, Soga Andrew Ogunsakin, in a statement shared on his Facebook page, condemned the attack.
While assuring the public of his commitment to ensuring accountability, Ogunsakin announced the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of Obesere’s stolen items.
“Upon receiving the report on the unfortunate incident involving Obesere, I immediately swung into action to ensure accountability and restore calm. I’m pleased to inform the public that three suspects connected to the disturbance have been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to track down other individuals involved. Some items said to have been stolen have also been successfully recovered.
“I have contacted Obesere’s management for a scheduled meeting. This will help me express deep concern over the incident,” he stated.
