Nigerian presidential hopeful and former vice president Atiku Abubakar on Tuesday turned 79 amid insecurity and terrorism in Nigeria.
Atiku who has been aspiring for the presidential office since 1993 recently left the Peoples Democratic Party—PDP– to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and is expected to contest again in the 2027 general election.
Some political leaders eulogises the political leader on social media celebrating his resilience, philanthropy, and role as a bridge-builder.
Formal governor of Sokoto State Aminu W. Tambuwal wrote: “Dear His Excellency, Through the span of many decades, you have distinguished yourself as a true democrat, a statesman of uncommon depth and a patriot whose commitment to Nigeria has never wavered.
“Your sacrifices for the enthronement and preservation of democracy remain defining chapters in our political evolution. At every critical moment in our nation’s history, you have stood firmly on the side of justice, constitutionalism and the rule of law.
“As a political leader, you have shown courage, tolerance and the rare ability to bring people together across regions, faiths and backgrounds. And as a father and mentor to many, your guidance has shaped a generation of public servants.” Tambuwal claimed
Not left behind is Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra state who likened the elderstateman to brother prayed for him while pointing out Atiku’s relentless in the political sphere: “It takes a remarkable kind of fortitude to remain active in public life well into one’s golden years. Your dedication and patriotism remain truly exceptional.”
Lauretta Onochie, Former aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari simply wishes the celebrant: “ “May your special day bring with it for you, all the joys of life and grace to deal with difficult times.
“Long life in great health is my wish for you. Enjoy your special day, surrounded by those who love you the most.”
While his political affiliation African Democratic Congress—ADC– listed his components: “If integrity, honesty, capacity, competency and compassion were human qualities, his name would be Atiku Abubakar.
“Happy birthday to the father of the nation, epitome of hope, the nightmare of drug lords and corrupt politicians, H.E. @atiku, on your 79th birthday occasion.”
The former vice president, served from 1999 to 2007 and also ran for presidency in 2019 and 2023, he received heartfelt wishes highlighting his work in business, education, and politics.
