Activist Report The Abduction Of Two Palm Wine Tappers In Edo State, One Killed As Ransom Failed To Meet Kidnappers’ Demand

Two palm wine tappers were reportedly abducted from their farm in Emuhu near Agbor, Delta State, Nigeria. One died when his relatives could only gather 10,000 naira, which the gunmen rejected.

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu led a multi-group rescue operation spanning Delta and Edo states, involving soldiers, vigilantes, and police, freeing the second man in Urhonigbe.

According to the activist on Friday morning: “Yesterday, I led Security Agencies in search of two Palm Wine tappers kidnapped in their farm at Emuhu, near Agbor Delta State.

“Security agencies responded swiftly. The Military from the 63 Brigade, the Emuhu Vigilante Group, Anti-Cult Abavo, Operation Soup, and teams of Police officers all joined us in the search and rescue mission.

“From Emuhu, to Abavo, to Obi-Ayama, to Urhonigbe. We were able to locate one of the victims at Urhonigbe, Edo State.

“He narrated the heartbreaking incident 💔 on how his colleague was killed after the man’s family attempted to negotiate with the kidnappers using the only money they had, N10,000.”

Gwamnishu called the killing heartbreaking, described Nigeria new reality as ‘painful’ as communities’ face rising kidnappings targeting even modest rural workers.
