Barbados Installs New President On 59th Independence Day, Popular Barbadian Singer Rihanna Celebrates From Home

The Installation of Barbados’ second president, The Most Honourable Jeffrey Bostic, took place at Kensington Oval during the annual Independence Day Parade and National Awards as the  island marked 59 years since breaking from British rule in 1966 and four years as a republic since 2021.

“Barbados, today is our day” declared Prime Minister Mia Mottley while sharing moments with flag-waving kids and Bostic in parade.

“Today, we also marked this occasion with the installation of our second President, Lt. Col. The Most Hon. Jeffrey Bostic.” Mottley disclosed

Barbadian singer and actress Rihanna Fenty, a proud native, celebrated from home with photos of sugarcane fields, local food, and her babies.

Her congratulatory post to her home country read: “Congratulations to Barbados, MY HOME, on our 59th year of Independence and our 4th year as a Republic!

“Today also marks the installation of our 2nd President, His Excellency Lieutenant Colonel The Most Honorable Jeffrey Bostic, who alongside our Honorable Prime Minister Mia Mottley will continue to lead Barbados with excellence!!”

External Affairs Minister of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar extended best wishes to the country and its people says “India remains committed to advancing our ties.”

Barbados gained independence from Britain on November 30th 1966. In November 2021, Barbados transitioned to a Republic.

Barbados was the 4th English-speaking country in the West Indies to achieve full Independence from the UK.
