Tech billionaire Elon Musk micro blogging app 𝕏 became the #1 source for news in every single EU country — Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
“𝕏 is seeing record-breaking downloads in many countries in Europe” Musk mocked the commission as the app gained more visibilities in 153 countries around the world
This is coming after EU fined X €120 million penalty for issues with its blue checkmark system, ad transparency, and researcher data access under the Digital Services Act on Friday December 5th.
The tech billionaire had responded on Saturday by urging the EU’s abolition to restore sovereignty to individual countries, sharing memes that contrasted vibrant Europe with a bloated bureaucracy.
Musk in advocating for free speech wrote: “The EU should be abolished and sovereignty returned to individual countries, so that governments can better represent their people”
He further criticized the commission mode of operation stating: “The European Union is not DEMOcracy – rule of the people – but rather BUREAUcracy – rule of the unelected bureaucrat!
“Throw off the yoke of bureaucracy!” He campaigned.
Amid debates over the EU’s democratic deficit, X surged to the top news app in every EU country, with Musk noting the irony of the fine boosting its reach.
