French club Nice has demonstrated firm solidarity with Nigeria international Terem Moffi following a disturbing incident in which he and teammate Jérémie Boga were attacked and racially abused by fans. The assault occurred on 30 November after Nice’s 3–1 defeat to Lorient, taking place in front of the team’s hotel. The players were beaten, molested and subjected to racial slurs, leaving both shaken and unavailable for the club’s next match.
In a powerful gesture of unity and condemnation of racism, Nice made it compulsory for the entire squad to wear shirts bearing the names of Moffi and Boga during their match against Angers. The players embraced the gesture with affection and support, signaling strong backing for their teammates as the club continues to provide them time and space to recover.
Moffi’s compatriot and close friend, Moses Simon, who currently plays for Paris FC, shared that the forward remains deeply affected by the incident.
“I talked with him, he is touched, and he still has a bit of pain,” Simon said.
The troubling episode has reignited calls for stronger protective measures within Ligue 1, with many insisting that the league must implement tougher actions to prevent such incidents from happening again.
