Victor Osimhen has acknowledged the high expectations surrounding the Super Eagles ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), but insists there is no pressure weighing on the squad.
“The expectation is really high, not just within the camp but from Super Eagles fans all over the world,” Osimhen said. “But as much as the expectation is high, there is not a single pressure on my teammates or coaches. We know the type of quality we possess.”
The Galatasaray forward sees AFCON as a chance for redemption following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the World Cup.
“This tournament is an opportunity for us to write our wrongs and show Super Eagles fans worldwide that there is so much more we can give,” Osimhen continued. “We are sorry for not getting the World Cup tickets, and we understand the disappointment on the faces of Nigerian fans. But life has happened, and we have to keep moving.”
Osimhen stressed the importance of taking the tournament one game at a time. “AFCON is a chance for us to do well and try to win the tournament. It’s not easy to win it, but we must take every game as it comes and see if we can lift the trophy.”
