The Lagos State Government has arrested 45 people involved in street begging across parts of the state.
The arrests happened during a coordinated clean-up and enforcement exercise in Alimosho, Agege, and Oshodi.
According to the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the operation was carried out by environmental officers as part of the state’s regular sanitation drive.
He explained that 17 beggars were arrested in Alimosho, 12 in Agege, while another 10 were later picked up in Alimosho and 6 in Oshodi.
Wahab said street begging is dangerous because it puts both the beggars and road users at risk, especially on highways and busy public areas.
The state government stressed that it will continue strict enforcement to keep Lagos clean, safe, and orderly.
