Zohran Mamdani Sworn In As New York City’s First Muslim Mayor

34-year-old Democratic Socialist, Zohran Mamdani, born in Uganda to Indian parents, took the oath as New York City’s 112th mayor in a private ceremony administered by Attorney General Letitia James.

He won election in November 2025 by defeating Andrew Cuomo, campaigning on affordability, housing, and working-class priorities that rallied young voters.
