Gunmen suspected to be bandits have reportedly attacked the National Park Service Office in Oloka, in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 9:00 p.m. on 6 January 2026, when armed assailants stormed the facility, targeting officers on duty.
Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka confirmed the incident, revealed the assailants as “yet-to-be-identified armed men” and said security forces were responding to prevent further escalation.
“Yes, there was an attack by yet-to-be-identified men against the men of the National Park,” DSP Olayinka said.
“The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, and other service chiefs are currently on their way to the location.”
He added that tactical teams, Mobile Police Force officers, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit have been deployed to the scene to restore calm and secure the area.
“The deployment is aimed at restoring calm, securing the area, and ensuring the safety of lives and property,” he said, urging residents to cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
Oyo State has faced recurring security challenges in recent years, with attacks on public institutions and law enforcement facilities raising concerns over banditry and the safety of personnel in rural areas.
