Real Madrid Players Pay Tribute to Xabi Alonso After Coach’s Departure

Real Madrid’s first-team squad have shared heartfelt messages on social media following Xabi Alonso’s departure as head coach, highlighting the impact he had during his time at the club.

Arda Güler thanked Alonso for believing in him from day one, writing on Instagram: “Every conversation, every detail, every demand helped shape my game and push me to a higher level. I’m truly grateful for everything you added to my journey. Your faith in me made me a better player. Wishing you and your staff nothing but success in what comes next. Your impact will always stay with me.”

Dean Huijsen added: “Thank you for everything I’ve experienced, Mister. I wish you the best in your future.” Gonzalo García wrote: “Mister, thank you so much for everything: the lessons, the trust from day one, and above all, the opportunity you have given me. I wish you all the best always.”

Several senior players also paid tribute. Antonio Rüdiger posted: “Thank you for everything. It was a pleasure and all the best for the future.” Álvaro Carreras wrote: “Thank you for everything, Mister. I wish you the best for your future.” Thibaut Courtois added: “Thank you for everything. It was a pleasure working with you and I wish you the best in your future, you deserve it.”

Fede Valverde expressed his gratitude, writing: “Mister, I wish you the best, to you and to the entire coaching staff who have always had a great attitude. Successes in everything that comes.” Rodrygo posted: “Mister, thank you for each day shared, for the trust, the learning and the moments lived. I wish you much success. May your career continue to grow. All the best always.”

Other players including Dani Ceballos and Raúl Asencio also thanked Alonso for his guidance and leadership, wishing him success in his future endeavours.

The reactions come as a reminder of how highly Alonso was regarded within the squad, despite his short tenure. Fabrizio Romano noted that Real Madrid had seen Alonso as the perfect candidate to lead a new era at the club for the past two to three years, aiming to bring fresh ideas and a different approach. His departure is reportedly a significant disappointment for president Florentino Pérez, the club management and supporters alike.

It has been a poignant day for Real Madrid, as players and staff alike acknowledge Alonso’s contributions and the influence he had in shaping the team during his short time in charge.
