The U.S. labeled the Muslim Brotherhood’s chapters in Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan as terrorist organizations, with the Lebanese branch named a Foreign Terrorist Organization and the others as Specially Designated Global Terrorists.
State Secretary Marco Rubio made the announcement on X; “Today, we are designating the Lebanese, Egyptian, and Jordanian chapters of the Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist groups.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, the United States will eliminate the capabilities and operations of Muslim Brotherhood chapters that threaten U.S. citizens and our national security.”
This freezes their U.S.-linked assets, bans material support, and bars members from entry, citing ties to Hamas.
The UAE welcomed the decision, a statement by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs read in part: “The UAE welcomes the American step to classify a number of branches of the Muslim Brotherhood group as terrorist organizations”
It emphasized that the step represent a key measure in the US, throwing its weight behind Trump’s administration to combat extremism and eradicate terrorism.
