Prime minister of Canada, Mark Carney met President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and other officials, announcing a new strategic partnership focused on clean energy, agriculture, finance, trade, and net-zero goals.
Carney wrote: “A pleasure to meet with President Xi in Beijing.
“Canada and China are forging a new strategic partnership. We’re leveraging our strengths — focusing on trade, energy, agriculture, seafood, and other areas where we can make massive gains for both our peoples.
“I believe the progress that we have made and the partnership (with China) sets us up well for the New… World… Order.”
The trip responds to U.S. President Trump’s threats to the USMCA trade deal, as Canada seeks to diversify beyond its top export market where 80% of goods go.
Non-binding energy agreements emerged, supporting over 400,000 Canadian jobs tied to $30 billion in annual trade with China.
