DR Congo passionate fan Michel Kuka, famously known as ‘Lumumba,’ who stood for 90 minutes and beyond in every game during the just-ended AFCON has received a jeep in Kinshasa.
The vehicle was presented to him by the Minister of Sports and Recreation of DR Congo, honoring his incredible dedication, energy and love for African football.
Lumumba was mocked by Algerian player Mohamed Amoura, after Adil Boulbina scored a 119th-minute winner, that eliminated DR Congo from the game at the round-of-16.
Amoura faced intense backlash for mocking a DR Congo super-fan who had stood still in a statue-like to honor Patrice Lumumba, the first Prime Minister of the Congo
Algerian forward Amoura was caught on camera imitating Mboladinga’s pose and falling to the ground, a gesture interpreted as mocking the supporter and the tribute.
The action was widely criticized as disrespectful and insensitive to a cultural icon. Amoura later apologized on Instagram, stating he was unaware of the symbol’s significance and meant it as a joke during high-tension celebrations.
The Algerian Football Federation apologized and took action to calm the situation, with a team official meeting with Mboladinga to present him with a jersey.
