Manchester United claimed a dramatic 3–2 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, handing the Gunners their first home defeat of the season in all competitions and securing maximum points in the Premier League.
Arsenal took the lead in the 29th minute through an unfortunate own goal by Lisandro Martínez. Bukayo Saka delivered a cross into the box which deflected off Martin Ødegaard and fell into the path of Martínez, who, while tussling with Jurrien Timber, inadvertently diverted the ball into his own net.
Manchester United responded eight minutes later. Bryan Mbeumo capitalised on a costly mistake from Martín Zubimendi, who attempted to play a back pass to David Raya. Mbeumo intercepted the ball, drove forward, and fired a powerful finish past Raya to restore parity.
The second half belonged largely to United. The visitors took the lead in the 50th minute through a stunning long-range strike from Patrick Dorgu, who unleashed an effort from distance that gave Raya no chance.
Arsenal thought they had rescued a point in the 84th minute when Mikel Merino headed home from a Bukayo Saka corner to make it 2–2, setting up a tense finale.
However, United had the final say just three minutes later. Kobbie Mainoo picked out Matheus Cunha in space, and the Brazilian calmly finished to seal a memorable win for the Red Devils.
The victory propels Manchester United into the Premier League’s top four and continues a remarkable start for Michael Carrick in his first two matches as head coach.
Michael Carrick’s First Two Matches in Charge:
• ✅ Win vs Manchester City
• ✅ Win vs Arsenal
Speaking after the match, Carrick praised his players and staff for their collective effort.
“I still think there’s more to come, but it’s two massive games, massive results and two really big performances we can take a lot from.”
On the team’s rapid turnaround, he added:
“I give a lot of credit to the staff and the players, in terms of what they have invested and the way they have bought into it. It is a really collective feeling and it’s great when it comes together and everyone is in it.”
Carrick also struck a note of humility following the win at the Emirates:
“We won’t overcelebrate away to Arsenal in their stadium, but when you have a result like that it is only right that we appreciate our supporters.”
Looking ahead, the United boss remained focused:
“We said two weeks ago when we came in that we make every decision for the greater good of the football club. My job is to keep improving the team and not get carried away with two massive results. It’s always about what’s next and keeping our feet on the ground. I’m enjoying it and will continue to do what I can.”
A statement victory for Manchester United, and an early sign of promise under Carrick’s leadership.
