Israel Defense Forces announced that the remains of the last hostage in Gaza, Ran Gvili, were recovered Monday.
The recovery of the body of the 24-year-old police officer, who was killed while fighting militants during the Hamas-led Oct. 7, 2023, attack that triggered the war in Gaza.
Gvili was one of 251 people, mostly civilians, who were abducted in the Oct. 7 attack, when Hamas-led militants killed more than 1,200 people.
The return of Gvili’s remains marks what should be the completion of the first phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s 20-point ceasefire plan.
