On Monday, president Muhammadu Buhari’s chopper had been pelted with stones in Kano State by angry youths, upon his visit to the states. Some Nigerians totally condemned the act while some stated that the residents were only acting on instructions given to them by the All Progressives Congress (APC) during Buhari’s campaign in 2015.
During the APC Presidential campaign in 2015, the Presidential campaign council (PCC) team had promised Nigerians “change” , a total reform from the ex president Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, where the people would not face the hardship being experienced today.
However, Senator Dino Melaye, the spokesperson of the People Democratic Party (PDP), declared that the attack on the president was the handiwork of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC Presidential candidate, due to the alleged undercurrent going on between Buhari and Tinubu.
His statement via his twitter read: “The fight between Tinubu and Buhari is entering a new dimension. The attack in Kano was properly coordinated and funded allegedly by Asiwaju. The meeting to push Buhari to submission or face sponsored attack in the north was said to be hatched in Burdilon. Me l am busy with Atiku.”
However the some notable Nigerians opined that the office of the president should be respected irrespective of the circumstances and whatever the country may be passing through, in their words:
@PeterPsquare: “We all agree that President Buhari and the APC has performed badly but we do not subscribe to humiliating the president or office of the president. This is totally condemnable!”
@ruffydfire: “I totally condemn residents stoning President Buhari in Kano.”
@slimwishBone: “TBT I don’t support the attack on the president but the question I want to ask is why now? All of a sudden it is because of redesign of naira that they use ad excuse? The killings in the north didn’t trigger any protest against the president until now … It’s just political.”
@Galadanci02: “I strongly disapprove of the violent protests against Buhari that took place in Kano. But he is solely to blame. People from Kano are not hypocrites. They will back you up if they love you.And if they don’t,they barely even glance at you. Buhari broke the trust of the Kano people.”
@CajetanChinons1: “During the campaign period of 2015 APC categorically told Nigerians to stone them if they failed to perform, they got what they requested, more stone will definitely come, I can assure u that, if this suffering continues, more stone will hit them.”
@Stephenspace2: “Who wud have ever thought that was possible in the North where Buhari was beloved. This is a very clear sign that Nigerians in every part of Nigeria are feeling the impact of failed government. Tinubu and atiku don’t know the fire they are playing with.”
@Constan02592105: “In an unjust society, silence is a crime. Buhari has created an unjust society, and so the residents of Kano have no other option than to speak in the only language which he understands. Let’s not forget that Kano is Buhari’s second home. He used to be their illustrious son.”
It has as well been noted that if the two attacks (Katsina and Kano) on PMB had happened in another part of the country, there would have been hell and brimstone.
According to a citizen:”President Buhari has been attacked twice in the north in two weeks. First in Katsina his own state, then in Kano. Heaven did not fall, bodies didn’t litter the street, no arrest & no burning of mosques & properties…very good.
“Imagine these attacks happened in Anambra & Enugu” he expressed.
