Reputations have been destroyed. Futures have been cut short. Lives have been permanently altered yet in some cases, those responsible for false claims have faced little or no consequences.
Months ago, a woman falsely accused her husband of abusing his own daughters. She allegedly coached the children on what to say. The man, Mr. Okwonkwo, was publicly arrested and detained before investigations proved the accusations were untrue.
In just one week, three separate rape allegations were exposed as false after gaining traction online.
These situations highlight a difficult but important truth: every serious accusation deserves careful investigation. Justice requires fairness, evidence, and due process — not trial by social media.
The case involving Mirabel is a reminder of how persuasive and emotionally compelling accusations can be. Many people were convinced. Those who questioned inconsistencies were criticized and insulted.
Supporting due process does not mean dismissing real victims. False accusations are rare, but when they happen, the damage is profound. Protecting the rights of the accused and ensuring proper investigations ultimately serves everyone including genuine survivors.
We must create a system where truth matters, where evidence is examined thoroughly, and where neither accusations nor defenses are accepted blindly.
Justice should never be about gender. It should be about facts. In as much we condemn rape we should also condemn false rape accusations and make sure perpetrators face law accordingly irrespective of their genders!
