East African leaders on Saturday, February 4, 2023, met to discuss the security situation of the Democratic Republic of Congo, during the 20th Extra-Ordinary Summit of the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State in Bujumbura.
The summit chaired by General Evariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi and attended by President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri K Museveni, President Samia Suluhu of Tanzania, President of the Republic of Kenya, William Samoei Ruto and Fèlix Tshisekedi of Democratic Republic of the Congo.
According to president Ruto: “The security situation in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo is fragile and regressing as more and more civilians bear the burden of the conflict. This is the time for countries in East African Community to proactively and collaboratively work together to build a better, more secure, stable and prosperous DRC. “
