Walid Regragui Nearing Exit As Morocco Head Coach Ahead Of 2026 World Cup

Walid Regragui is on the verge of stepping down from his role as head coach of the Morocco national football team, just four months before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Sources indicate that the Moroccan tactician has submitted his resignation, with his departure potentially set to be formalized as early as tomorrow, 25th February 2026.

Appointed on 31 August 2022, Regragui oversaw the most successful period in Morocco’s football history. At the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, he guided the Atlas Lions to a historic fourth-place finish — making Morocco the first African and Arab nation to reach a World Cup semi-final. During that remarkable run, Morocco recorded memorable victories over Belgium (2–0), Spain (on penalties), and Portugal (1–0).

More recently, at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations hosted in Morocco, Regragui led the national side to their first continental final since 2004. The Atlas Lions ultimately finished as runners-up following defeat to Senegal.
