German Goalkeeper Oliver Khan Reminiscences On Past Mistake In Football History

Oliver Khan: “Exactly 25 years ago today, I scored my first — and only — professional goal.

“Contrary to what I believed at the time, goalkeepers are not allowed to handle the ball in both penalty areas.

“The goal was disallowed and I was sent off — still it earned me legendary status. 😉”

Kahn is the only goalkeeper in World Cup history to win the Golden Ball, and also became the first German goalkeeper to keep five clean sheets in a World Cup tournament.

The football keeper is one of the most successful German players in recent history, having won eight Bundesliga titles, six DFB-Pokals, the UEFA Cup in 1996, the UEFA Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup, both achieved in 2001.
