Reece James has committed his long-term future to Chelsea F.C. after signing a new six-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 2032.
The 26-year-old right-back previously had a deal running until 2028, but the fresh agreement extends his stay by a further four years and aligns his contract with the club’s incentivised wage structure.
James, who currently serves as Chelsea captain, has made 225 appearances for the club since breaking into the first team. His journey with the Blues began at a very young age after joining the club’s development centre in 2006 when he was just six years old.
He progressed through the academy ranks before signing his first professional contract in March 2017.
James made his competitive first-team debut on September 25, 2019, during a dominant 7–1 victory over Grimsby Town F.C. in the EFL Cup.
Since then, the England international has become one of the club’s most important players and a key leader within the squad.
During his time at Stamford Bridge, James has helped the club secure several major honours, including the UEFA Champions League in the 2020–21 season. He has also lifted the FIFA Club World Cup twice, in 2021 and 2025, captaining the team during the latter triumph.
He also led Chelsea to victory in the 2024–25 UEFA Europa Conference League, marking his first major trophy as the club’s official captain, while also winning the UEFA Super Cup in 2021.
The new deal reinforces Chelsea’s long-term commitment to one of their academy graduates, who continues to play a central role in the club’s present and future plans.
