AFA Open Contract Talks With Scaloni Ahead Of 2026 World Cup

The Argentine Football Association have already opened talks with Lionel Scaloni over a new contract as head coach of the Argentina national team.

AFA president Claudio Tapia is keen to finalise and officially announce the agreement before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Scaloni has enjoyed a hugely successful spell in charge of Argentina, leading the nation to glory at the FIFA World Cup 2022, ending the country’s long wait for a world title. He also guided Argentina to victory in the Copa América 2021 and successfully defended the title at the Copa América 2024, establishing a dominant era for La Albiceleste.

Under his leadership, Argentina also lifted the Finalissima 2022, defeating European champions Italy..

In terms of numbers, Scaloni has managed 90 matches for Argentina, recording 67 wins, 14 draws, and just 9 losses an impressive record that underlines his impact and consistency at the highest level.
