Senegal Appeal To CAS Over AFCON Title Decision

Senegal have officially filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, challenging the decision by the Confederation of African Football to strip them of the Africa Cup of Nations title and award it to Morocco.

The move marks a major escalation in the dispute, with Senegal determined to overturn the ruling through legal means. The federation believes there are strong grounds to contest the decision, particularly surrounding how the match in question was handled.

Speaking on behalf of the federation, Moussa Mbaye, a member of the executive committee, подчеркнул the country’s composed and strategic approach to the case:

“We don’t act with emotion, but in a very cold and very lucid manner to best serve the interests of Senegal,” Mbaye declared.

Senegal’s appeal is expected to focus on procedural inconsistencies, including the fact that the match was allowed to continue and was completed on the pitch an argument that could prove central to their case before CAS.

CAF, on the other hand, is understood to be relying on its regulatory framework regarding disciplinary breaches, which could justify its decision depending on interpretation.

With both sides preparing for a legal battle, the final outcome will now rest on evidence, regulations, and CAS’s independent judgment setting the stage for a landmark ruling in African football.
