Barcelona In Talks To Secure João Cancelo’s Permanent Stay

FC Barcelona are in active discussions with super agent Jorge Mendes over the possibility of keeping João Cancelo at the club on a permanent deal, with contacts now confirmed.

Sporting Director Deco is keen on retaining Cancelo beyond this season, with internal approval already granted by head coach Hansi Flick. The Portuguese full-back remains a key part of Barcelona’s plans going forward.

However, Al-Hilal are demanding a transfer fee to sanction his departure this summer. The Saudi club have set a valuation of around €10 million, as Cancelo still has one year remaining on his contract.

Barcelona, on their part, are exploring alternative solutions. The club is aiming to secure Cancelo on a free transfer, potentially through a contract termination agreement with Al-Hilal. This approach would significantly ease their financial constraints.

Negotiations are ongoing with Jorge Mendes as all parties work towards a solution that suits everyone involved, with further talks expected in the coming weeks.

Cancelo, who remains on loan at Barcelona until the end of the season, has made 12 appearances for the club in all competitions . He still has a contract with his parents club Al-Hilal which runs until June 2027.

The situation remains open, with a clear gap in valuation between the clubs, making this one to watch closely in the weeks ahead.
