The former deputy governor of Kano state Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and the APC’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate, resigned his party membership on March 29, 2026, calling it a voluntary personal decision.
He had earlier quit as chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria’s board, following President Tinubu’s directive for political appointees to resign ahead of 2027 elections.
Hours later, he met the former governor of Kano state Rabiu Kwankwaso—who had just joined the ADC earlier—at his Kano residence, with sources saying Gawuna plans to follow suit amid growing political realignments in the state.
Gawuma speaking in Hausa in an address had equally stated that as he goes to receive his ADC party membership card, he has two options: either to enter through the front gate of the Kwankwaso residence or to pass through the part where the wall has been broken( wurin da aka zare bulo).
Kwankwaso confirmed the news in a statement on X: “Pleased to receive His Excellency Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, former Deputy Governor of Kano State, at my residence in Kano.
“Looking forward to what lies ahead.”
