Enzo Fernández has been handed a two-match ban by head coach Liam Rosenior following remarks made in the aftermath of Chelsea FC’s recent UEFA Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain and comment during the international break.
Speaking to ESPN Argentina after the loss, Fernández cast doubt over his long-term future at the club. He said:
“I don’t know” when asked if he would still be at Chelsea next season, adding: “My focus is here now. Then the World Cup coming up, so we’ll see after that.”
The midfielder further fueled speculation during the international break, stating:
“I really like Madrid – it’s similar to Buenos Aires,” when asked about potentially living in the Spanish capital in the future.
In response, Rosenior took decisive action, emphasizing the club’s standards and culture:
“As a football club, with me as part of the decision, he won’t be available for tomorrow’s game or Manchester City next Sunday. A line was crossed in terms of our culture and what we want to build.”
The situation has reportedly caused frustration within the club and among supporters, particularly as Chelsea navigate a difficult spell, having lost four consecutive matches across all competitions.
