Leaders from PDP and ADC factions met Wednesday at former Senate President David Mark’s Apo home for a solidarity visit, hours after protests at INEC headquarters demanding recognition of Mark’s ADC leadership.
Attendees included Seyi Makinde, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and others, who highlighted shared threats to opposition parties and called for vigilance to safeguard democracy.
PDP released official statement regarding the visitation, “acknowledging the growing and shared threat confronting opposition political parties in the country, noting that similar pressures have been experienced by the PDP in recent times. The delegation emphasized the need vigilance in the face of actions capable of undermining democratic principles and political plurality.”
Both parties face deep divisions—INEC delisted Mark’s ADC group and recognizes PDP’s Damagum faction—prompting insiders to describe the talks as a survival strategy ahead of 2027 elections.
ADC leadership expressed appreciation to the PDP for the visit and reiterated the existential threat facing democracy in Nigeria, particularly through the targeted weakening of major opposition parties. Both parties affirmed the need for continued engagement in defence of democratic values and institutions.
