Japanese midfielder Ao Tanaka is reportedly open to leaving Leeds United this summer, with a preference for remaining in the Premier League. While SC Freiburg has also shown interest, Tanaka is understood to prioritize a move within England. According to SkySport, Leeds could consider a transfer fee in the region of €10–12 million.
Tanaka has struggled for consistent playing time this season, starting only seven of the 21 matches he has featured in. This represents a significant drop from the previous season when he was a key figure for Leeds in the EFL Championship, starting 37 of 43 appearances, scoring five goals and providing two assists.
A versatile midfielder, Tanaka primarily operates as a central midfielder (CM) or defensive midfielder (CDM), offering flexibility in the middle of the park. His decision to seek a new challenge comes as he looks to regain regular playing time and continue improving at a high level.
