NASA Artemis II Astronaut Shares Unedited Video Of ‘Earthset’ That Was Taken With Iphone

During NASA’s Artemis II mission, launched April 1, 2026, astronaut Reid Wiseman recorded an unedited 53-second iPhone video of Earth ‘setting’ as Orion spacecraft zipped around the Moon’s far side.

He filmed through a small docking window with 8x zoom, capturing the moment with crewmates Christina Koch snapping pro photos nearby and Victor Glover and Jeremy Hansen watching from another spot.

Wiseman described it as ‘like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos,’ highlighting the mission’s human touch after humanity’s first crewed lunar orbit since 1972.

Wiseman wrote: “Like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos, I couldn’t resist a cell phone video of Earthset. You can hear the shutter on the Nikon as Astro_Christina is hammering away on 3-shot brackets and capturing those exceptional Earthset photos through the 400mm lens.

Astro Vic Glover was in window 3 watching with Astro_Jeremy next to him.

“I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view…this is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye.”
