When Farhad Moshiri took over Everton in 2016, he promised to bring success to the club, he went further by spending big to recruit players and managers, like former Real Madrid star James Rodriguez and Carlo Ancelloti.
Unfortunately Moshiri’s investment did not turn out like he hoped, as the club battled relegation for two seasons in a row and financial issues leading to strikes and protests.
The 69 year old put the club for sale last year and an agreement was reached with 777 Partners in September but the deal couldn’t go through as 777 Partners couldn’t get approval from the Premier League to complete the takeover.
Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor was also interested in buying the club recently as he spoke about his desire to purchase the club publicly but nothing concrete materialized.
Statement released on Monday 23rd of September 2024 by Friedkin Group confirming the agreement with Farhad Moshiri partly read: “We are pleased to have reached an agreement to become the custodians of this iconic football club. We look forward to providing stability to the club and sharing our vision for its future, including the completion of the new Everton Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.”
The Everton fans took the news of Friedkin Group reaching an agreement to buy their club with great joy.
World renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano took to his X account to post the news and many fans commented under the post showing their excitement.
Green Turf commented; “Hopefully Everton can become a serious club again! The fans deserve a good owner and better football.”
Jack; “Damn what a huge news congrats.”
Werosetem; “They will not be relegated.”
Tomek; “A historic moment for Everton and an exciting new chapter ahead.”
Friedkin Group are not new to the sport as they are the owners of Italian Outfits A.S Roma. The Americans have invested around €830m since taking over the Italian side in 2020 and under their guidance the club won the UEFA Europa Conference League and got to the final of the UEFA Europa League.
Friedkin Group has to satisfy the Premier League over its owners and directors test to complete the takeover.
