NIGERIA-LIBYA AFCON QUALIFIERS 2025 IN JEOPARDY AS SUPER EAGLES PLAYERS HAVE DECIDED NOT TO PLAY AFTER BEING STRANDED FOR 12 HOURSAbout an hour to landing, the Nigerian aircraft approaching its destination in Benghazi was diverted to Al Abraq, another city more than two hours drive from the original destination. The players landed in Al Abraq Airport and were abandoned for 12 hours without any provisions food, water or wifi inclusive. The pilot who is a Tunisian wasn’t locked in with the players at the airport, as he came back hours later, he had been told in every nearby hotel that they would only accept him and none of the Nigerian Aircrew Members.Following the incidence, the Captain of the Super Eagles William Troost Ekong said the lads won’t be playing the match against Libya, he said this on X formally known as Twitter;“We have kept our spirit up but these are no conditions we will accept when done on purpose. Travelling by road is not safe here and you can only imagine how they would treat us in the hotel or the food they will try to give us. It was funny before but as a team we respect ourselves and under these conditions we won’t play.”The Nigerian Football Federation also backed the players’ decision by putting out a statement saying; Players have resolved not to play the match any longer and NFF are making plans to fly them back home.
