THOMAS TUCHEL SIGNS CONTRACT TO RESUME AS ENGLAND HEAD COACH IN JANUARY

Thomas Tuchel has officially been appointed as the new manager of England’s senior men’s football team. The German coach will assume his duties on January 1, 2025, after signing an 18-month contract.
This contract covers England’s preparations and campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. If Tuchel succeeds in leading the Three Lions to victory, his deal will be extended beyond the tournament.
In a video message posted on Instagram, Tuchel expressed his excitement about the role and his determination to bring England their second World Cup title.
Speaking from Wembley Stadium, he said, “Hi guys, Thomas here, quite nervous as this is my first message as England head coach. I’m at Wembley, where else? That’s also a reason to be a bit nervous, I think that’s a good thing.
“I can promise you I’m very excited, very honoured and I will do everything I can to qualify for the World Cup first of all, and then have a successful World Cup. Try to get a second star on our shirt.” He added
Tuchel continued in the press conference, sharing his pride in being given the opportunity to manage England: “I am very proud to have been given the honour of leading the England team.
“I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already. To have the chance to represent England is a huge privilege, and the opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting.”
Addressing the media regarding a non-English coach leading the national team, Tuchel emphasized his love for English football: “I just have a German passport… but all of these supporters can feel my passion for the English Premier League, how I love to work here, how I love to live here… hopefully I can convince them I am proud to be an England manager.”
Mark Bullingham, CEO of the Football Association (FA), voiced strong support for Tuchel’s appointment, saying: “We wanted to hire a coaching team to give us the best possible chance of winning a major tournament, and we believe they will do just that. Thomas and the team have a single-minded focus on giving us the best possible chance to win the World Cup.”

Tuchel joins Sven-Göran Eriksson and Fabio Capello as one of only three foreign managers to lead England. The national team has not won a major international trophy since their iconic 1966 World Cup victory.
Renowned for his tactical brilliance and success across Europe, Tuchel is regarded as one of the best coaches in the world. Over his career, he has collected 11 major trophies, including league titles with Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich. His tenure at Chelsea saw him lift the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
