Alleged men of the Nigeria Police Force have reportedly chased a young man identified as Bidemi to his fall in Ipaja Ayobo, Lagos state.
In a post and video posted by @Omorhemi on the X, a close person to the family of the young man, she narrated that Bidemi who had been on a bike was stopped by the alleged officers in mufti and concluded that he was an internet fraudster (yahoo boy) because of the tattoo on his body.
The victim explained that he wasn’t a criminal, tried to escape for his life when it was being threatened with a gun but unfortunately the alleged personnel chased him relentlessly till he fell into a carnal, took away his personal effect, cash inclusive.
Her post read: “Yesterday morning, police chased my friend’s husband till he fell into the canal, they took his slippers and money that fell and left when people started shouting. This happened at federal bus stop, Ipaja Ayobo axis.
“The officers were on mufti, they stopped him on bike, the bike man left. They searched him insisting he is a yahoo boy cos of his tattoos and started cocking their guns that they will shoot him, he started moving away saying he’s not and they started following him till he ran.” She added
The narrator in the video supported the claim, showing the boy in the carnal as some Nigerians tried to pull the unconscious body from the pit, inclusive in the rescue mission were two Lagos State Fire Department Service men in their full regalia.
Bidemi was pulled out unconscious and was being prayed for by some of the men while he was transported to a hospital.
@Omorhemi confirmed that he was still unconscious and breathing with the help of an oxygen at the Lagos State Teaching Hospital: “He is currently unconscious at Lasuth.”
However the Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Bnjamin Hundeyin asserted that the claim is yet to be confimed by the security operative but investigation is still ongoing.
According to SP Hundeyin: “Since we saw this video, we have been making concerted efforts to verify this claim but nothing has turned up yet. We have checked our records and no report has been made till now of this incident that the narrator explained happened yesterday.
“Nonetheless, our investigation is ongoing. The Area Commander covering that entire axis is personally on it. Anyone with additional and useful information should please reach out to us. We will keep the public updated on our findings.” The PRO added
