President Trump backed Right-wing lawyer Abelardo de la Espriella, nicknamed ‘El Tigre,’ holds a slim lead over leftist senator Iván Cepeda at 49.66% to 48.70% after 99.99% of tables reported in Colombia presidential election.
U.S secretary of state Marco Rubio in a congratulatory message wrote: “Just spoke to Colombian President-Elect @ABDELAESPRIELLA to congratulate him on his electoral victory.
“The Trump Administration looks forward to working closely with your incoming administration to advance regional security cooperation, end illegal immigration to the United States, and strengthen our economic ties.
“Colombia’s best days are ahead.”
