Jürgen Klopp: “It was a very even and competitive game for both teams, especially for DR Congo after they managed a fantastic draw against Portugal in their previous match.
“But I really enjoyed watching it. The energy and support from the fans was incredible – I saw one supporter standing throughout the entire match. That kind of passion is what makes the World Cup so special. This tournament keeps giving us surprises.
“Despite all the pressure from Colombia, DR Congo defended with real heart and held them until the 70th minute. They were unlucky with Daniel Munoz’s goal for Colombia, especially after missing several good chances themselves.
“You could see the quality in their defending, even against Luis Díaz, who was caught offside five times and same James Rodriguez despite all his effort but they outplayed him That shows how well they organised DR Congo played among themselves.
“I always tell my players: you can play brilliantly in one game, but the next one can be completely different. You have to bring luck to your side – it’s not just about talent and Diaz knows.”
Tonight, the only real difference was that Colombia won the game, while Luis Díaz didn’t have his best performance. But credit to DR Congo they showed they belong at this level but the Worldcup tournament is all about result.
