Marco Palestra is set to join Chelsea FC after a full agreement was reached between all parties over a €60 million transfer from Atalanta BC. The deal structure is valued at €57 million plus €3 million in bonuses, with Atalanta also securing a 10% sell-on clause for any future transfer.
Chelsea beat competition from Inter Milan, who were unwilling to increase their offer beyond €55 million. The agreement marks a decisive step in Chelsea’s push to secure the highly rated Italian defender ahead of the new season.
Palestra is expected to sign a five-year contract running until June 2031, with an option to extend for an additional season until 2032. His salary is expected to be around €5.5 million per year, including bonuses, reflecting Chelsea’s long-term commitment to the player.
The player was previously expected to continue his development in Italy, with Inter Milan seen as his preferred destination. However, he was ultimately convinced by discussions with Chelsea, including talks with manager Xabi Alonso conducted via Google Meet, which played a key role in his decision.
Paperwork and final documentation are expected to be completed shortly, with Chelsea preparing the formal steps needed to finalize the transfer. Medical examinations are also scheduled for next week as the move approaches completion.
