Movie: OLUFUMILAYO RANSOME-KUTICategory: Biography, Family, Drama

The movie “Olufumilayo Ransome-Kuti” was a biography of the human/women’s Right Activist and mother to the pioneer of Afro beat music, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
This epic written by Bolanle Austen-Peter showcases the strength of a woman who had the support of her loving husband to fight injustice melted out to women in Egba land and formidable enough to send the Alake on an exile, while his Starve of authority was ceased.
The activist was relentless in being a voice for the oppressed and over burden, an advocate of education for all, irrespective of the gender, she didn’t just fought battles, she was an agent of change and a force to be reckoned with, whose voice refused to be silence even in the face of pains and threat.
“Olufunmilayo Ransom-Kuti” lead role was played by Kehinde Bankole who had a striking resemblance to the late activist and did justice to her role.
Scripting, costumes, props, location and sound track wise, the casts and crew did a great work, however one ponders if back then, the character only dialogue mainly in English language, even with some of the market women, who were not learned.
It’s worth watching but you definitely don’t want to watch a mediocre movie after “Olufumilayo Ransome-Kuti”, because it raised the bar higher.
