FGF Files Complaint Against Tanzania, Calls for AFCON 2025 Disqualification Over Identification Issue

The Guinean Football Federation has lodged a formal complaint with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), calling for Tanzania’s withdrawal from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to allow Guinea to take their place.

The controversy stems from the final day of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers, where Tanzania secured a 1-0 victory over Guinea, ensuring their qualification at the expense of their opponents. However, Guinea claims that Tanzania violated CAF regulations during the match.

According to Guinea’s complaint, Tanzanian player Ibrahim Ame entered the field wearing jersey number 26, despite being registered with jersey number 24 by the Tanzanian Football Federation. The Guinean Football Federation cited an article in CAF’s regulations, which mandates strict adherence to player registration requirements, including correct jersey numbers and proper identification.

Guinea has urged CAF to take action on the matter, arguing that Tanzania’s alleged violation merits their disqualification from the tournament.
