Manchester City Misery Continues as Feyenoord Stage Remarkable Comeback at the Etihad

Manchester City’s struggles continued as Feyenoord pulled off an extraordinary comeback to secure a 3-3 draw at the Etihad Stadium.

The Premier League champions took the lead in first-half stoppage time when Erling Haaland converted a penalty after Feyenoord captain Quinten Timber was penalized for catching the Norwegian in the box.

City began the second half brightly, with İlkay Gündoğan doubling their advantage in the 50th minute. Just three minutes later, Haaland added a third, becoming the fastest player to reach 50 goal contributions in the UEFA Champions League — achieving 45 goals and 5 assists in just 44 matches.

Despite their commanding lead, Manchester City’s dominance extinguished in dramatic fashion. Algerian international Anis Hadj-Moussa sparked Feyenoord’s revival in the 74th minute, reducing the deficit to two. Santiago Giménez further closed the gap in the 82nd minute before Dávid Hancko completed the remarkable comeback, leaving Pep Guardiola surprised. After the game, Pep Guardiola admitted his disbelief at the outcome. With visible cuts on his head and nose, the City boss said, “I want to harm myself.”

Manchester City have now gone six games without a win across all competitions, registering five defeats and a single draw. They also made unwanted history, becoming the first team in UEFA Champions League history to lead by three goals as late as the 75th minute and fail to secure victory. This was the first time since May 1989 that City failed to win a match in which they had a three-goal advantage.

Speaking after the match, Guardiola said he hadn’t sensed any danger when his side were three goals up. “We have problems, yes,” he admitted. “Three changes? The game is never over, but at 3-0, I could not see any danger…” He added, “It’s not necessary to say anything to my players. They know perfectly.”
