The English FA has announced that Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi will not face punishment for displaying religious message on Rainbow coloured Armband

The England international recently wrote “Jesus Loves You” on his rainbow-colored armband during Crystal Palace’s 1-0 win against Ipswich Town. Previously, he wore the armband in a match against Newcastle United, where he inscribed “I love Jesus.” Despite speculation about a potential backlash from the FA, the player was not punished for the earlier incident.

The FA stated that while Guehi will not be charged also for the 2nd incident but he will be reminded of the rule banning religious messages. According to the International Football Association Board (IFAB) laws, players are not allowed to display religious messages on materials used during matches.

The FA said that wearing the rainbow armband is not a must for captains. The armband is primarily worn during the Premier League’s Rainbow Laces weekend, an initiative run in collaboration with LGBTQ+ organizations and the Stonewall charity to promote equality, diversity, and LGBTQ+ acceptance.
