Atalanta Winning Streak in Serie A Extends to Nine Games in a row after 2-1 win against AC Milan

Atalanta extended their winning streak to nine games in a row in Serie A, defeating AC Milan. Notably, Atalanta’s head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, was absent from the dugout due to a two-match ban, and his assistant, Tullio Gaetano Gritti, took his place.

Charles De Ketelaere scored the opening goal for Atalanta in the 12th minute with a fine header, following a well-executed free kick by captain Marten de Roon. However, Milan equalized 10 minutes later through summer signing Alvaro Morata, who received a nice pass from Rafael Leao.

Ademola Lookman had the opportunity to give Atalanta the lead going into halftime, but he fired his shot wide after running into the box from the left wing.

In the second half, Atalanta looked the more dangerous side, dominating possession and forcing Milan to defend. Mike Maignan made several crucial saves for Milan, including a notable one in the 79th minute when Lazar Samardzic played a nice pass for Lookman in the box.

Lookman eventually scored the winner in the 83rd minute. Samardzic’s corner from the right-hand side touched Sead Kolašinac’s head, directing the ball to Lookman, who was unmarked at the left side of the post and tapped the ball home.

Four minutes after the goal, Lookman was substituted off and replaced by Marco Brescianini. Atalanta had another chance to score when Mateo found himself in a one-on-one situation against Maignan, but the goalkeeper came out on top.

The result takes Atalanta to the top of Serie A, two points above Napoli, who have a game in hand. Atalanta is the highest-scoring side in Serie A with 38 goals. Meanwhile, Milan is in 7th place with 22 points, and their Serie A title hopes are mathematically over.
