Atlético Madrid came from two goals down to close the gap to three points behind league leaders Barcelona.
Atlético Madrid took the lead early through Rodrigo De Paul’s beautiful shot from the edge of the box, but Sevilla equalized two minutes later through Dodi Lukebakio. Sevilla went ahead for the first time in the 32nd minute after Isaac Romero found the back of the net through a break in transition.
Atlético Madrid were close to drawing level in the 41st minute after Conor Gallagher was picked up by Griezmann. Gallagher dribbled past the Sevilla defense and Alvaro Fernández, but could not find the finish. Atlético Madrid thought they had drawn level in stoppage time, but Julian Alvarez’s goal was ruled out for offside.
Sevilla got a two-goal advantage in the 57th minute through a well-taken cross from the right-hand side, which Juanlu Sanchez volleyed home. There was still room for more drama as Antoine Griezmann halved the deficit for Atlético Madrid five minutes later. Before Samuel Lino came off the bench to equalize for Atlético Madrid in the 79th minute. Diego Simeone’s tactical substitution made the difference.
Atlético Madrid went on to snatch all three points late into stoppage time, with Samuel Lino again turning provider for Antoine Griezmann’s winner.
Diego Simeone praised his side’s resilience in the second half: “In the second half, their third could have really hurt us, but the team kept pushing to get back into the game. Then came our second, the subs gave us a boost, and we kept attacking—Lino’s goal and Griezmann’s incredible strike sealed a thriller to watch.”
The result meant Atlético Madrid has 10 wins in a row in all competitions.
