Barcelona beat Borussia Dortmund 3-2 to move into 2nd place on the UEFA Champions League table. The first half ended goalless, but there were plenty of chances for both sides.
Barcelona could have taken the lead through Lamine Yamal in the 11th minute, but he shot straight at Gregor Kobel. Three minutes later, Raphinha found himself in space in the box after a beautiful pass, but he played the ball wide.
Marcel Sabitzer had the chance to score for Borussia Dortmund when he found himself in front of Barca’s box after a cross from Julien Duranville, but Sabitzer played his shot over the post. Kobel was called into action again in the 20th minute when he made a save from Yamal after he played a powerful shot from the edge of the box.
Barca had another chance in the 36th minute after Robert Lewandowski and Jules Koundé combined, but Kobel denied them. Dortmund could have taken the lead going into half-time after Gittens’ cross met Guirassy in the box, but the Guinea international shot wide.
Serhou Guirassy thought he had given Dortmund the lead in the 50th minute after he put the ball in the back of the net following a cross from Gittens, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Two minutes later, Raphinha gave Barcelona the lead, taking his goal tally to 18 goals for Blaugrana this season.
Dortmund were awarded a penalty in the 60th minute after Guirassy was brought down in the box by Pau Cubarsi. Guirassy stepped up and put the ball into the bottom left corner.
Barcelona almost took back the lead 9 minutes later after Raphinha crossed the ball for Dani Olmo in the box; however his effort was denied by Kobel. Robert Lewandowski was replaced by Ferran Torres at the 71st minute. Four minutes later, Torres restored parity for Barcelona.
The action was far from over as Serhou Guirassy scored his 2nd of the night and Dortmund’s equalizer in the 78th minute. The Blaugrana went on to snatch all three points after Barca’s prodigy, Yamal, set up Torres for the winner.
Barcelona has now won two consecutive matches against German opposition this season. They now have five wins and one loss from six games in the Champions League.
