Arsenal’s win against Monaco took them a step closer to securing Champions League round of 16 football for the next year.
Arsenal played their best football, dominating the ball and playing free-flowing attacking football. Gabriel Jesus almost gave Arsenal the lead in the 25th minute when he was clean through on goal with Monaco’s shot-stopper, Radosław Majecki, but the Brazilian couldn’t put the ball past him. Three minutes later, Jesus was clean through again after a defensive error by Thilo Kehrer, but his effort was saved by Majecki.
Arsenal’s dominance finally paid off in the 34th minute. Arsenal’s prodigy, Myles Lewis-Skelly, was involved in the build-up, playing a long ball to Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian delivered a nice cross for Bukayo Saka to tap it home.
Martin Ødegaard was through on goal in the 39th minute, and you would expect Ødegaard to score, but he played his shot just off the post.
Arsenal looked less threatening in the second half but continued to dominate possession. However, a mistake from Mohammed Salisu helped Saka double Arsenal’s advantage in the 78th minute. Arsenal wrapped it up in the 88th minute after a cross from Saka touched Kai Havertz’s leg, taking the ball past Majecki.
Arsenal have four wins, a draw, and a loss from six Champions League games this season.
