The Nigerian Prince That Became African King: Ademola Lookman Crowned 2024 African Player of the Year

Nigerian and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has won the CAF Best Player of the Year Award. Lookman beat Moroccan Achraf Hakimi, South Africa’s Ronwen Williams, Ivorian Simon Adingra, and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy. He becomes the sixth Nigerian to win the prestigious award.

Ademola Lookman was crucial for club and country last season, guiding Nigeria to the AFCON final and helping Atalanta win the UEFA Europa League, including scoring a hat-trick in the final. Lookman’s season includes an Europa League trophy, AFCON silver medal, being named in the Europa League Team of the Year, and scoring a hat-trick in a European final, becoming the first African to achieve that feat.

Barbra Banda Wins CAF Women’s Player of the Year Award

Barbra Banda has won the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award. The Orlando Pride player became the first Zambian to win the award. Banda guided Orlando Pride to their first NWSL Championship in history, scoring 17 goals and providing 7 assists. She also captained her country at the Olympics.

Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie was named CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for the second time in a row after an outstanding season with Paris FC and the Super Falcons.

South Africa’s skipper Ronwen Williams won the CAF Goalkeeper of the Year award after an outstanding season with Mamelodi Sundowns and the national team, including guiding his country to their first AFCON semi-final since 2000.
