Liverpool defeated Southampton 2-1 to advance to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. The Reds’ victory marked their 20th consecutive game without a loss in all competitions.
Darwin Nunez opened the scoring in the 24th minute, netting his fourth goal of the season. Harvey Elliott doubled Liverpool’s lead in the 32nd minute, courtesy of a swift pass from Cody Gakpo.
Southampton pulled a goal back in the second half through Cameron Archer. Despite their efforts, the Saints were unable to find an equalizer, helping Liverpool to advance to the semi-finals.
Liverpool remains in contention to win all four competitions this season. Under the guidance of manager Arne Slot, the Reds have now gone 20 games without a loss.
The defeat marked Simon Rusk’s first match as interim manager of Southampton. His side will travel to Craven Cottage next to face Fulham in the Premier League.
