Australian Airline Crew Members Allegedly Rape and Mugged In Fiji

Fiji government on Thursday stated that its police are investigating into rape and theft incidences that involve two Australian airline –Virgin Australia—crew members that transpired on New Year’s Day.
According to report, the crew members who were supposed to fly off the following day, had visited a popular tourist of Nadi on a layover.
Fiji Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew in a statement had confirmed that investigations shows two crew members had gone into a night club in Nadi.
In his words: “Unfortunately, two of the crew members were victims of an alleged theft and rape after exiting the night club trying to find their way back to the hotel.”
However, in clarifying the air, Fiji’s deputy Prime Minister and minister of tourism and civil aviation, Viliame Gavoka said the alleged theft and sexual assault occurred separately to two different Virgin Australia crew members.
Gavoka expressed regret over the alleged incidents and said that a suspect known to the police for the alleged sexual assault had been questioned and that the investigation was ongoing.
Virgin Australia said it was aware of the alleged incidents, had thereby sent people to Fiji to provide support, but did not provide further details in a statement to Reuters.
Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade told Reuters it was aware of the reports but declined to comment further.
