Lagos Increase Capacity and Ensure Efficiency in Transportation with Six Additional Trains from China

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to take delivery of six additional train sets from China to enhance its rail mass transit system.
The governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu stated this in a post on his twitter handle, explaining that the purpose is to ease the residents commuting and for the growth of the state.
In his words: “Six new train sets are on their way to Lagos to strengthen the capacity of our Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue and Red Lines. This step will transform commuting and further drive economic growth across our state.
“These train sets, having successfully passed factory acceptance tests, are scheduled for shipment. Once they arrive, they will increase trips on the Blue Line and prepare us for the extension to Okokomaiko upon the completion of phase two.”
Sanwo-Olu reasoned one of the purpose of the train will be to connect communities while he acknowledged that this mode of transportation will tremendously transformed the state with its increased efficiency.
“Phase two of the Blue Line, a 14-kilometre stretch from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko will connect even more communities, bringing our vision of seamless mobility closer to reality.
“Since its launch in September 2023, the Blue Line has transformed commuting in Lagos with 72 daily trips along the Marina to Mile 2 corridor.
“With the new trains, we will increase capacity, ensuring an even faster and more efficient service for all Lagosians. This expansion underscores our commitment to building a Greater Lagos that works for everyone.
“The future of transportation is here, and Lagos is ready to lead the way. This is Lagos, and we deliver.” The governor added
The first phase of the Blue Line, a 13-kilometer rail route from Marina to Mile 2, was inaugurated by former President Muhammadu Buhari on January 23, 2023.
Passenger operations commenced on September 4, 2023, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
